From the time the brand off white was created it has always stood out and been very unique. However you Might not always know if you’re looking at and off white piece or not. Some are of course branded with the name but most are not so I’m going to tell you 5 signature styles that will tell you if you’re looking at an off white piece.
The first would be quotation marks. This is one of Virgil's favorite things to use. He will put big bold words in quotation marks across a lot of the off white clothing. This is certainly one of his signature fashion techniques. The quotations sometimes are used for irony win showing a piece, or often can also be used to call into question what’s something really is.
Another one of Virgil's signatures would be big plastic tags. This isn’t something you’ll see on any shirts or pants, but mostly on sneakers. Virgil does include these tags on his clothing pieces but in order to properly wear the garment you often have to cut this tag off. That was done very intentionally because keeping it perfectly in the package is not something that Virgil wanted. He always wanted his clothes to be worn. Sneakers are a different story though. He would attach the plastic tags through the laces so you could just unlace the shoes to keep the tag intact or simply leave them on. A lot of people that are really into shoes like they keep them in as close to brand new condition as possible so often you will see the tags still dangling from the sneakers with people wearing them
Another signature of Virgil would be diagonal lines. Especially in some of his earlier work from 2015 to 2017 A lot of Virgil's worked featured big bold diagonal lines either on the sleeves of long sleeve shirts or hoodies or on the backs of these shirts. He also often used them on the bottom calf area of his jeans and other designs. This is certainly a signature from some of his earlier work. He does still incorporate it occasionally but it’s not as big a part of the line
Arrows in an X design that form a box are also a signature of Virgil Abloh’s Off white. This design can be found mostly in jackets and on the back of pants. Sometimes one big one on the back of a big jacket like one of his most famous varsity jackets from 2014, or simply a pin that has been distributed as well but this has become one of his signature designs.
In his earlier days there were a lot of black and whites going along with the theme of the brand, but as of late he’s been incorporating more neon green and bright electric blue colors. I like this change and it really makes some of his pieces stand out a lot more.
