Virgil Abloh proved time and time again that he makes the best artwork of anybody at this time period he’s done fashion music furniture end many other things. It was only fitting that his work was put on display in a museum. The Museum of contemporary art Chicago displayed and exhibit completely designed by Virgil Abloh. The exhibition was called figures of speech. A lot of Virgil’s work was featured throughout this. There were a lot of designs that were never seen before as well. There were racks with clothing items hung on them in designs that we had never seen from Virgil before. Shoes that he is designed were also on display. Another interesting piece that was on display was the oversized real life Yeezus album cover. As we’ve grown to know Virgil we also know that he thinks anything can be art so there were a bunch of more random seeming pieces that were included as well. For instance a cease and desist letter from the United nations, which admonished Virgil for using its logo on Flyers for DJ gigs was on display. Also a DJ set up, because Virgil did used to DJ in his earlier days. Another interesting piece was something he called dorm room, in which he essentially just piled up a bunch of items from his IKEA collaboration in a very hectic way. There was also a feature in gift shop that went along with this collection as well and a limited edition Nike Air Force One in a light blue that also released with this.
Chicago was the first stop for this exhibit, but it also made stops in Boston, Brooklyn and Atlanta. When the museum in Chicago initially announced that they would have a Virgil Abloh exhibit some people were skeptical. They didn’t think his work was museum worthy. They were saying how can this fashion designer have his work in such a prestigious museum. Virgil certainly proved them wrong although he did incorporate many things from his life in the fashion industry there were many other things included as well legitimate sculptures and paintings and pictures. You very much saw the world through Virgil’s artistic eye when you were walking through this exhibit. He shows you how anything can be art.
