In 2018 when Virgil abloh was appointed the artistic director for Louis Vuitton there was some skepticism about his appointment. He was always well known for his creation of what he called luxury street wear. Some people in high fashion circles did not believe that street wear belonged anywhere near their designs. In 2019 Virgil Abloh had his first chance to display his designs and show that he belonged in the same space. He more than exceeded expectations.
His first show for Louis Vuitton was spring summer 2019 in Paris. The event featured white, beige, blue and green hues. There were also psychedelic prints and bright street wear items. Each look for the models was planned out perfectly. Hero pieces included chained bags, plenty of unstructured Blazers and utility vests. Virgil signature color accents were also found throughout on shoelaces and gloves. Multiculturalism also played its part in the show. Each model came from all parts of the world which was something Virgil wanted. Some other notable models were some of Virgil’s friends from his time in the Music industry. Steve Lacy, Fev Hynes, Kid Cudi, and playboi carti all walked the runway in Virgil’s Louis Vuitton designs.
Virgil also made sure that there were students in the audience. Over 3000 students lined the runway of this show and that was all virgil’s doing.
This show was certainly a wake up call to the world of fashion, but the most memorable moment didn’t involve a piece of clothing. At the end of the show Virgil himself walks down the runway just taking some time to soak up his success. As he was walking down he sought Kanye West and the two shared a very emotional hug on the runway. A very full circle moment for both of them
