Virgil x Ikea

Virgil is most known for his fashion design and secondly his album covers. All of these works of his are very well known and appreciated by their respective communities. Some may not know that Virgil has his degree in architecture from the University of Wisconsin because of his success in these other fields. And one of his lesser known projects that was very successful was his collaboration with the Swedish furniture brand IKEA

The collaboration was titled “MARKERAD” which translates to “MARKED” in English. The limited collection featured Virgil Abloh putting his signature style on some common household items.

Some of the most famous pieces from the collection are the rugs. One of the most notable being a green grassy style rug with wet grass in quotations written across it. There were a number of other pieces that Virgil worked on as well. Some being bed frames and bed sheets and pillows, as well as chairs a bag tools, and a

clock.

All of these items that were designed by Virgil Abloh kept very close to his signature styles and you can tell they are his. The title of the translation which translates to marked makes a lot of sense because he uses his signature quotation marks on quite a few of the items. One of the bags has sculpture and quotation marks written across it and the clock has temporary in quotation marks written across. These are very in line with Virgil's signature style.

I remember when the collection first came out and I tried to get my hands on anything but it all sold out almost instantly. I wish we could have gotten to see some more furniture designed from Virgil because these pieces to me all turned out perfectly. Particularly the rugs because I think they allowed Virgil to really showcase his design as an artist and not just fashion designer. Like any other piece that released from Virgil Abloh however a lot of those are somewhat unattainable now the rugs that had a retail price of about 200 to $300 now go for five to $6000 on secondary markets.
